Gap Cover

Protection against unforeseen medical espenses

Comprehensive cover from R141 per family per month.

Gap cover is a short term product that works in conjunction with your existing medical aid to cover the shortfall between what your medical aid will pay for when you are admitted to hospital, and what the hospital and the specialists charge.

The rising cost of private hospitalization also necessitated medical schemes to implement procedure related in-hospital co-payments / deductibles that are out-of-pocket expenses to the member which can also be covered.
Over time, gap cover policies have been developed to address more than just this and can even cover some of the following (according to the different insurers). Some out-of-hospital procedures that used to be require hospitalisation, but can now be performed in a doctor’s surgery.

Co-payments for certain specified hospital procedures (in full). A contribution to cancer treatment costs once your cancer benefit on your medical scheme has run out. The shortfall on internal prostheses (such as a hip replacement procedure) up to a stipulated maximum. A lump sum for first-time cancer diagnosis (terms and conditions usually apply). Lump sum benefit for accidental death or permanent total disability. Premium waivers on medical scheme and gap cover Casualty costs (once again, terms and conditions apply).
